We are Don and Shannon
Welcome to our next adventure
After working 30 years in the mining equipment industry and raising 2 children we decided that sailing around the world sounded like an excellent next step.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. Aren’t you from the Midwest, do you know what you’re doing?
Yes, and maybe. We hatched this plan while living in the pumpkin capital of the world, Morton, Illinois. After 4 years of learning and training, we stepped forward and the rest is history.
3. What kind of sailboat do you have?
We are currently shopping for a used sailboat in the 44’ – 47’ range that will become our primary residence at sea.
2. No really, do you know how to sail?
We took ASA 101, 103, and 104 classes at St. Augustine Sailing in Florida which we highly recommend. The training was excellent and we remain in touch with our friends to this day.
4. Where will you sail?
Our current plan calls for sailing the Caribbean and eastern US coastal areas while we gain experience with a goal of crossing the Atlantic in 2027 or 2028. We hope to cross the Pacific in 2030. Like most sailing plans, these are written in sand, at low tide.
